Angel Strawbridge, star of Escape to the Chateau, has firmly stated that she will not apologise for the heated rant she directed at a crew member during filming. The show, which ran on Channel 4 for nine seasons, documented Angel and her husband Dick Strawbridge’s journey of transforming a 19th-century chateau in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, France.
Last year, a leaked audio recording revealed Angel angrily confronting two crew members. Using strong language and calling one a “fed up little ct.” The incident led Channel 4 to sever ties with the couple after an internal review. However, the Strawbridges responded, stating that there are always “two sides to every story.”
In a candid interview on Elizabeth Day’s How To Fail podcast, Angel shared her perspective on the situation. She explained that a series of disagreements on set led to the outburst and made it clear that she does not regret her words. “I will not apologise. I stand by what I said,” she asserted. “To apologise would be disingenuous to who I am.”
“I haven’t listened to the recording again; it makes me feel a little sick,” Angel Strawbridge admitted. “My friends say they can hear me gradually getting more upset. There’s a part I don’t remember, but I do remember just shaking uncontrollably.”
It is true, according to sources that came across. Escape to the Chateau is ended and never going back after some rumored circumstances concerning the behaviour of Strawbridge family. What was shocking that, they would come across while making statements were by none other than their 9 years of son. Arthur and his younger sister 8 years, old Dorothy explaining:.
“It was bittersweet,” Angel said. “The kids were getting more aware of themselves, and that was one of the major reasons we felt it was time to end the show. Arthur and Dorothy were so innocent, and as they grew older, we wanted to protect their privacy.”
She then added that after filming, they threw a big celebration. Knowing that their decision also meant ending a profitable venture. “We had to be honest—we were no longer making a lot of money for everyone involved.”
Angel explained in the interview why she chose to speak out a year after the leaked audio. She wanted to share her side of the story and set the record straight.
With a year on, we have our integrity, and we’re doing so well. We’re happy. Business is fabulous. Everything is good. I can look back and say, actually, it’s fine to say a thing or two. It’s not adding fuel to the fire – what I want to do is actually sprinkle some water on something that still irritates me,” said Angel.
She said the “tsunami” of social media frenzy surrounding the events made her not want to go into detail about what happened at the time.
“Sometimes you don’t know why you say things, but now feels like the right time. There are instances that need to be taken into context,” she said.
A crew member remained seemingly unmoved as Angel talked down to him after losing track of his whereabouts. “I wanted to know where you both were. “She is heard saying; adding: “My husband speaks to everyone when he’s grumpy like a piece of s. Angel accuses him of posting images on Instagram of a man she claims resembled her husband, Dick.
“Who is that inspired by when you’re fing working at the chateau? ” she says, adding: “Just tell me that and then you can fing leave – and this is me fing angry because I think you’re a fed up little c.” You can read the full transcript of Angel’s angry rant here.
After the leak, The Strawbridges said in a statement: “There are two sides to every story and from the incredible support we have received, most of you know that.”. We’re proud of who we are and feel we should do what we believe to be right. It’s actually that which kept Escape to the Chateau unique and while we indeed parted ways with Channel 4. We’re hugely grateful to them and their teams for all the support and creativity over the years.
“It is very exciting to see what the future may bring, and we thank you for your continued love and support.”
A Channel 4 spokesperson said at the time: “Channel 4 is committed to actively addressing unacceptable behavior within our industry. Following a review of our processes in 2021, we have made it easier for people to raise concerns, both formally and informally.
